PMD

This is a vehicle intended for the transport of a person that:

  • Is equipped exclusively with one or more electric motors with a maximum combined power of 500 W
  • Its propulsion must stop when the PMD reaches a maximum speed of 25 km/h
  • Is equipped with at least one wheel with an overall diameter of at least 190 mm
  • Does not have a closed cabin made of rigid or flexible material, whether transparent or opaque
  • Has a maximum weight of 36 kg, including the battery

Examples of PMDs: electric scooter, electric unicycle, Segway (self-balancing transporter), hoverboard, electric skateboard, electric balance bike

PMD Regulations

Art. 633.1, Codification 125 of the HSC:

14 years and older

A person having authority over a minor and control of a personal motorized device allowed or tolerated the minor to operate the device while under 14 years of age.

Helmet: Mandatory
Operating a personal motorized device without wearing a protective helmet that meets manufacturing standards.

About the Régie de Police du Lac des Deux-Montagnes

The Lac des Deux-Montagnes Police Department serves a population of nearly 50,000 residents across the towns of Deux-Montagnes and Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, as well as the municipalities of Saint-Joseph-du-Lac and Pointe-Calumet. This area, bordered to the south by Lac des Deux Montagnes, features numerous bike paths, parks, marinas, and boat launches. Two stations on the Deux-Montagnes commuter train line provide access to downtown Montreal. Officers patrol a primarily residential area that includes 12 elementary schools, 3 high schools, 2 adult education centers, and 1 specialized school.
